17/06/09 DISMORE CALLS FOR GREATER TRANSPARENCY IN PUBLIC SERVICE

Andrew Dismore, Labour Member of Parliament for Hendon, has sponsored a House of Commons motion, calling for greater transparency in relation to public salaries and remuneration packages (click PDF icon below for motion).

transparency

Mr Dismore said:

“In view of the continuing need for greater transparency, I believe that this issue goes beyond Parliamentary salaries and allowances, and it should apply to the public sector as a whole.

I do not see why those who work for other public bodies, such as agencies and quangos, should not also be covered by the need for transparency, as well as public organisations which are effectively funded by the taxpayer like the BBC, through the licence fee.

In my view, transparency should be across the board where salaries significantly higher than the national average wage are paid.”
